Behaviour Warning Board

£9.99

  • A great tool to help motivate users to behaving in appropriate ways.
  • Both board and symbols are made from plastic so they are incredible durable and hardwearing.
  • The board is A4 in size – which is a good size for both display on the wall and also to keep on the desk for easy access and reference.
  • Symbols are 4.5cm square, again easy to both see and handle.
  • Includes three symbols using a traffic light system (red, amber, green). This is an easily understandable system which helps the person to see at a glance how their behaviour is at any given time.
  • Uses the same symbols as the Boardmaker software, which are the images that most schools and facilities rely on. This means that individuals are likely to already be familiar with the symbols used which can be extremely important when trying to encourage the use of the product. The images are Mayer-Johnson images, by Dynavox Mayer-Johnson, and are used with permission.

The Behaviour Warning Board is an important tool to be able to help the person to take responsibility for their own behaviour.

It allows a parent/teacher/carer to alert the person that their behaviour is starting to become problematic, without the need for raised voices, or what could be interpreted as a verbal confrontation.

This then gives the person time to think, and modify their behaviour accordingly. The fact that the entire warning system can be conducted silently is extremely important, as for many on the spectrum they can feel victimised or targeted when being verbally warned. A silent warning is far less threatening, and is usually accepted much more readily.
The A4 board uses a traffic light system – starting at green, through to amber and then finally red. If appropriate, you could introduce a pre-defined consequence if the person reaches the red stage. For example, we have found that this is a particularly popular product for use in a classroom. Whilst the child is playing well with his peers, the board would show a green symbol. If the teacher noticed that he was starting to get louder and snatch toys from other people, they could replace the green symbol with an amber one, and draw the child’s attention to this. This would warn the child to consider how they are behaving, and to modify what they are doing. In many cases, this would be enough for the child to realise that their behaviour is starting to become unreasonable, and they would go back to sharing toys again. However, if the child continued with their behaviour and perhaps started to hit others, then the amber card could be replaced with a red one, which the child would know indicates time out. They would then go to the time out area for a pre-defined amount of time, after which they would have a short conversation about why they had to go there, and then go back to a green warning on the board.

Being made from plastic means that it is extremely durable, and can withstand heavy use in the classroom.

Designed initially for autistic children, it has been used successfully with a wide age range and also alternative diagnoses such as learning disabilities, ADHD and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). It has also been used in pre-schools and other early years setting extremely successfully. Being made from plastic means that both the board and symbols are flexible, yet remain strong and extremely durable.

This product is part of the Autism Supplies and Developments range of visual communication aids, which were originally designed to help our own autistic son. With over 30 years professional and personal experience being with those on the spectrum, you can be sure that these products are well designed and helpful.

“Wonderful”

“As a busy mum to 3 children ( one child whom has Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder), I was struggling to fit in time making my own Pecs as I have done so previously using my laptop and pushing my half knackered laminator to the limit!- which took many many hours during the evenings .

I came across these wonderful products they are exactly what I needed .
I ordered quite a few Picture Exchange Communication Aids from -Autism Supplies and Developments- , the delivery was very quick and they were delivered in perfect condition.

I am very impressed with the boards and cards They are clear, high quality Picture Communication Symbol images.”
